About Us

HOR was founded in 2000 by visionaries Dr. Ronnie & Pastor Shirley Naidoo, who were inspired to establish an institution that would cater for the social development, enhancement and welfare of the community. The primary objective of the HOR is to be a beacon of hope to the homeless, destitute, and the down trodden of society, by providing essential services to all people irrespective of race, colour, creed or religion of this disenfranchised community.HOR was founded in 2000 by visionaries Dr. Ronnie & Pastor Shirley Naidoo, who were inspired to establish an institution that would cater for the social development, enhancement and welfare of the community.

The Haven of Rest (HOR), nestled in the heart of the sugar cane town of Tongaat on the KZN north coast, caters for a wide demographic community extending from Durban to Richards Bay. It is a Non-Governmental Organisation, housing a Cluster Foster Care for children, an Old Age Home, a Halfway House for recovering substance users, a Free Medical Clinic, a Hope Centre for abused women and a School for students from grades RRR through 12. Our vision is to reach out to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the community.

The organisation has been successfully in operation for the past 20 years through the support of volunteers, caregivers, sponsors, civil society, religious bodies, community members and the endorsement of partnerships. The Haven of Rest does not receive any international funding whatsoever.
